Overview

Sparknotes is a free website that acts as an academic study tool for students. Originally created for studying guides involving literature, movies, and history, the website has since expanded to include subjects such as biology, government, math, poetry, and many more. For over 500 titles available, users have access to chapter summaries, character descriptions, essential themes, practice quizzes, study questions, and important quotes within a text. This has been a great tool for teachers to give to students for English and literature classes, prompting discussion and aiding study for class novels. Students have also independently used the website to help study and understand classical literature. One of the most notable sections of the website include SparkNotes' "No Fear" texts, where classical Shakespeare and other texts have been paraphrased into modern prose that students can understand. The website is completely free to users and is easily accessible on devices with internet capabilities.
