Overview

Poll Everywhere is a web-based audience response system that allows the presenter to embed interactive activities directly into a presentation. [1] The teacher is able to create a poll or quiz, embedded within the presentation or on a website, for a specific class, and the students are able to provide instant feedback using a cell phone, text messages, or any web-enabled device. The answers update within second, and answers can be displayed in a chart on the presentation screen or not, depending upon the needs of the teacher. The polls may be used for gathering data, assessing informally for mastery, identifying and challenging misconceptions, conducting live classroom quizzes and tests, conducting open-ended polls, reviewing content to prepare students for an assessment.

Before class, the teacher develops the poll or questions, customizes the chart, and how the students may answer. During class, the teacher asks the questions on the screen. Each poll is assigned a code, and when the teacher wants the students to respond, he or she provides the students the code to respond through text message, Twitter, the poll’s web page, or on their smart phones through pollev.com. The responses are viewed within seconds on the customized chart. The teacher uses the responses to inform in-class instruction. After class, the teacher may download the results in a report to share with the educational team to analyze.
