Overview

Scratch Jr is an edutain game because it is very entertaining, but it is also educational. It provides students opportunities to learn and play while learning to code. This program allows young students grades 4k-2nd to learn to use the scratch programming language originally created by MIT. This app also has a desktop version which is a nice feature for classrooms that are not as technologically advanced.
This app has a visual help section but not written introduction or instruction which is nice for younger students. Students are able to explore the game to learn how to use it on their own. Students are able to connect pieces that look like puzzle pieces. When combined with the beginning and ending pieces students are able to watch their character complete the sequence. Students are able to choose a variety of characters and create numerous various sequences for the characters to complete. This learning to sequence provides students with building blocks to learning to code.
