Scratch, Jr. Learn pdf

Overview

Scratch, Jr. is a free app for tablets found on google play or apple and is intended for 5 to 7 year olds to begin learning to code. IT is inspired by the popular Scratch programming language created by MIT. A true problem-solving app, Scratch, Jr., allows students at its highest level to create, evaluate, analyze, apply, and ultimately understand what they are doing. There is plenty of information for a parent or teacher available to teach children how to use the program including a visual help section which can either assist adults in teaching children or possibly allow students to experiment on their own. Students are able to connect pieces that look like linking cubes. When combined with the beginning and ending pieces students are able to watch their character complete the sequence. Students are able to choose a variety of characters and create various sequences or stories for the characters to complete. This learning to sequence provides students with the building blocks for coding. Problem solving/learning/education at its best--when students are having fun and don’t even realize how much they are learning and working.
