Overview

NWEA MAP is an assessment that measures the progress and growth in reading, language usage, math and science for students grades K-12. NWEA stands for Northwest Evaluation Association. MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. It provides teachers with accurate evidence and a guide to help target instruction for each student regardless of their ability level being far above or below grade level.

The test itself is unique in that if the student answers a question correctly, a harder question is asked. If the student answers the question incorrectly, an easier question is asked.

The NWEA MAP is a test taken via computer by students as early as Kindergarten and as late as 12th grade. The test is untimed and has multiple integrated accommodations as well as the option to test Spanish speaking students in their home language. It is designed to be given multiple times a school year. Examples are Fall, Winter, Spring or just Fall and Spring.

The reports are easy to use and standards-aligned so that teachers and parents alike can use the data from the MAP test to drive instruction, set individual goals and report out for Individualized Education Plans or IEPs and 504 plans.
