Mind mapping is a means of taking notes and making notes by literally mapping out ideas. Mind mapping creates an organizational structure which starts with a central idea, and uses lines, symbols, words, color, and images to attach information which further describes the central idea. Mind mapping creates a visual, memorable, and systematic organization of information which works with the brain's natural way of doing things.
There are 5 essential characteristics of Mind Mapping.
- The main idea, subject or focus is crystallized in a central image.
- The main themes radiate from the central idea as branches.
- The branches are key words or images connected by lines to the central idea.
- Topics of lesser importance break off the branches as twigs.
- The diagram forms a connected structure.
