Facebook is a free, popular social networking site and app. Facebook is a great way to communicate with people both within and outside one's Professional Learning Network, (PLN).

Facebook was created by Mark Zuckerburg, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. They launched Facebook in February 2004 specifically for Harvard students to socialize. Later, they gradually expanded it to include all college students. Come 2006, they decided to make it inclusive to anyone who was at least 13 years old. You are then able to follow their posts, or even choose to not follow them but still remain connected. Posts can be images, words about the happenings of their daily lives, Memes, videos, etc. All of which, once posted are visible to your friend network, or if you choose, publically.

Facebook also has pages that you can follow, created for groups, businesses, schools, etc. When following these pages, you can get updates when they post information as well. Users can also create private or public events and groups. There is private messaging and video chat on the site and a separate messaging app for smartphones.
